Don’t Hold Back a Smile Because of Missing Teeth

August 28, 2014

Just what exactly is a tooth implant?  Most are made of titanium and are used to replace missing teeth.  Dental implant teeth are fused to the jaw bone making them extremely sturdy and dependable.  This process of fusing is called “osseointegration”.  By being made out of titanium, dental implant teeth are not seen as a foreign object by the human body.  According to Medicinenet.com the success rate of dental implant surgery is about 98 percent and improving.

From one tooth to your whole mouth of teeth, dental implants can solve many problems without introducing news ones.  Dental implants can be used for either function or for esthetics depending on the need of the patient.  Dental implant replacements range from assisting with removable options such as dentures, stability for a dental bridge or simply as a dental implant.

There are many concerns that must be addressed prior to having dental implants installed.  Your oral surgeon will go over these concerns with you including:

  1. Verifying the location of the missing tooth/teeth that are being considered or dental implants.

  2. Investigating the jawbone area that will receive the dental implant to ensure strength, stability and possible success rate with the dental implant.

  3. Your overall health will be checked prior to beginning the dental implant procedure.

  4. The total cost of the procedure will be discussed and if needed, other options may be considered.

  5. A good oral surgeon will discuss the various options with you and present the pros and cons of all procedures that are candidates based on your needs and financial capability.

Dental implants are the only oral procedure that promotes bone growth rather than bone loss.  This consideration may be vital depending on your age and severity of tooth loss that dental implant surgery will be correcting.

When selecting an oral surgeon to consult with for your dental implant consider their time in service, quality of service based on prior customer comments and range of services offered.  While specialists are great, if there are unforeseen complications you will require a referral to another dentist for some procedures which can cause unnecessary travel and additional expense.  If possible picking a general dentist that offers specialized treatments is the best option that can reduce costs involved along with aggravation involved with having to co-ordinate with multiple oral surgeon offices.

Missing teeth do not have to stop you from smiling your best smile.  Dental implant surgery is improving in both the procedure and in the overall appearance.  Dental implants can give you that perfect smile again along with the confidence that comes with having natural looking teeth.  With the right oral surgeon the only way people will know you had dental implants is if you tell them.
